In art, specifically in the period I made this piece, I like to revisit old icons, works from the grand masters from the past and symbols I can play with and update in my creation process. I love Delacroix's Marianne leading the revolution, that image is a worldly recognized icon and represents a lot of things and concepts. Furthermore, my influences are very heterogeneous, they go from street art, to Japanese traditional art (notice the style of the clouds) to Latino (the flames of the Guadalupe's Mexican virgin) and minimal art so I tried to put all of it in a coherent way and harmonized composition.
Concerning the message of this piece, well, I'm going to leave it to the observers freedom of interpretation, I just want to add that the poor kid at her feet asking for food and the intervention I made changing the flag and the mosquet are keys to understanding it.
This piece is part of a private collection.
