"Liberté égalité Fraternité study"
70x50cm Acrylic and mix media on canvas 2015

In art, specifically in the period I made this piece, I like to revisit old icons, works from the grand masters from the past and symbols I can play with and update in my creation process. I love Delacroix's Marianne leading the revolution, that image is a worldly recognized icon and represents a lot of things and concepts. Furthermore, my influences are very heterogeneous, street art simplification beeing one of them, I used it in order to concentrate on the symbol. This is a whole piece I consider finished yet as a study. Some time after I produced the idea and piece on canvas in a way I feel more finished.

Concerning the message of this piece, well, I'm going to leave it to the observers freedom of interpretation, I just want to add that the poor kid at her feet asking for food and the intervention I made changing the flag and the mosquet are keys to understanding it.
